Seyed Mohammad Hossein Adeli is the Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), a position he assumed on January 1 2014. An accomplished technocrat, diplomat and academic, he has extensive government and private sector experience in energy, economics, international relations and diplomacy.
He has served his country Iran in various capacities as Advisor to the Minister of Oil and International Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic and Energy Affairs, Governor of the Central Bank, Advisor to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as Iranian Ambassador to Japan, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Dr. Adeli was instrumental to the economic reforms in post-war Iran, and also served as the Chief negotiator in the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, the Iran-Europe gas cooperation, Trade and Environment Relations with the European Union, the common offshore gas fields with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and the Iran- Armenia gas pipeline. He was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Iranian Gas Export Company.
Founder of the Revand Institute for Economic and International Studies, the first private think-thank in Iran, with focus on economics, energy, international studies and environment, and with close working relationship with international Oil companies, the World Economic Forum and other similar high-level international think tanks, Dr. Adeli has a Ph.D. in Business Administration and a Ph.D. in Economics.
