Ten major Japanese energy stakeholders to host global gas & LNG event

Ten Japanese companies from across a range of energy disciplines have pledged their support to host a major international natural gas & liquefied natural gas (LNG) event in Japan next year.

Japan’s dependency on imported energy – in particular natural gas & LNG – makes it the largest customer in the world, consuming a massive one-third of all produced LNG global volumes. As energy prices have slipped drastically, this has resulted in initiatives within Japan (and among other Asian consumers including Korea, China and Taiwan), for greater flexibility and more control over contracts and diversification over security of supply.

Many global suppliers and project developers working in gas & LNG are facing tough times as prices drive many to seek out new markets and contracts in an increasingly competitive sector. Opportunities to secure new projects and new customers will bring many stakeholders to Japan when the energy community meets at Gastech, taking place at the Makuhari Messe Chiba, Tokyo in Japan from 4 to 7 April 2017.

Leading the examination and debate around the future for gas & LNG will be the Japan Gastech Consortium, comprising of a leading representation of the entire gas & LNG value chain from upstream investors, project engineers, shipbuilders, traders, technology leaders, lawyers, through to end-user & consumer. The ten companies which make up the consortium are: Tokyo Gas, JERA, Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsui & Co., INPEX, ITOCHU, Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd (JAPEX), JX Nippon Oil & Energy, Marubeni Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation.

Gastech brings together the global technical and commercial sectors across the entire gas & LNG value chain, connecting those funding, commissioning and advising on projects with the engineers and technology experts delivering on the ground. In tough times, it has never been more important for the industry to connect and engage more to drive down costs, increase efficiency and ultimately win new business in globally-significant markets.

The Gastech Conference will welcome around 2,500 professional delegates who will benefit from major enhancements to the four day programme. These include a broader agenda with more than 20 different commercial and technical topics and a flexible two-tier pricing structure.

The official ‘Call for Papers’ campaign is currently open and ends in July. It is expected to attract more than 1,500 applications for the 200 speaking spaces on the agenda.

The agenda will provide more than four times as many technical sessions than previous editions and technical subjects include: LNG shipping & shipbuilding, innovative technology, floating LNG, engineering procurement & construction, gas & shale exploration and production, smart grids and fuel cell technologies, gas-fired power generation, among some.

Core commercial themes will include candid and bold examinations of key subjects including: the future for gas in a new world of tighter economics and environmental demands; the evolution of pricing & trading in the gas & LNG markets; and where the new international frontiers for gas & LNG investment might next lie.
